Toshiba Satellite T235D-S1360 A netbook -- on steroids.
By RagtimeWillie [December 11, 2011, 4:41 am]If you are looking for a good quality, lightweight notebook, this one is worth considering. I can add very little to what the other 4 and 5 star reviews have said. And, while I can understand some of the frustrations noted by the few angry reviewers, I consider those complaints to be chiefly based in product specification ignorance or lack of understanding in return policies and modern offshore tech support.
As far as speed, the Windows 7 Experience Index is 4.0, which is derived from the lowest performing category (Desktop Performance for Windows Aero.) The other ratings are: Processor, 4.3; Memory (RAM), 6.6; Gaming Graphics, 5.1; and Primary Hard Disk, 5.9. It performs just fine for web browsing, Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat Pro and the other programs I normally use.
I am very pleased so far with the utility and value I have received with this model. I like the "chicklet" style keyboard, which is reminiscent of late model Apple MacBooks. The screen, while smaller than I am accustomed to using, is sharp and bright. And even though its dark chrome embossed finish took me back a bit at first, I am now getting accustomed to it.
Some random thoughts:
Like just about every other consumer computer shipped these days, this one doesn't have restoration discs. Instead, it has a utility to help you create a factory restore image. I chose to create it using a 16gb flash drive instead of borrowing an external DVD and spanning several DVD discs. The image is just slightly larger than what will fit on an 8gb flash drive. Later I tested the restoration process and it worked quickly and flawlessly...
