CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA108 Desktop Not Bad for the Money
By Mark M. [December 11, 2011, 11:51 pm]Got the computer quickly. I added an additional 8Gb of RAM memory and also a liquid cooler for the CPU. I had to remove the motherboard to do this and the original fan that was attached to the CPU. I then forgot to plug the graphics card power cord and of course I got nothing on the display. Finally figured it out and now everything works well. For the money spent, under $1500, you get a top of the line AMD CPU, maximum RAM memory (once you add the additional 8Gb for a total of 16Gb) and a CPU that will stay cool when playing the games that require a lot of system resources. The graphics card is quite good but I would like to see how it performs with one of those afore-mentioned games. Overall, I am very pleased with the tower. I didn't realize how huge this thing was. I've always bought the traditional sized computers from BestBuy and such and was somewhat surprised with the bohemoth size (full size tower?) of the GUA108. The advantage is the roominess inside when adding memory and other stuff which equates to you having an easier time when working on the guts of the computer. It's surprisingly quiet too. I thought the thing was going to sound like a Honda generator because of the sheer size and increased power requirements. I ran the Performance Information and Tools feature of Windows 7 and it rated the GUA108 (with the added 8Gb of memory I added of course) with the following (The Windows Experience Index assesses key system components on a scale of 1.0 to 7.9):
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T Processor = 7.5
Memory (RAM)16.0 GB = 7.5
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series = 7.7
Gaming graphics 8958 MB Total available graphics memory = 7.7
Primary hard disk 787GB Free (931GB Total) = 5.9
The lowest score of 5.9 on the Primary hard disk was based on disk data transfer rate. Perhaps a faster hard drive is in order? Maybe a 6Gb/s hard drive or something similar?
