ASUS Eee PC 1015PN-PU17-RD Powerful little PC with a long battery life!
By Ryan Scott [December 11, 2011, 7:50 am]I purchased this ASUS Eee PC 1015PN-PU17-RD 10.1-Inch Netbook (Red). I also purchased a SSD drive, Windows 7 premium upgrade, and 2 GB of ram. The screen is nice and clear, the keys are closer together than I am used to but after about 10 minutes you don't notice this. Also, the Red color in nice and the scheme is nice and smooth. The overall appearance is great. Right out of the box this PC was pretty fast. It was faster than my previous HP DV2000 with 2 GB of ram and 128 dedicated video. I had an issue with the SD card reader not working, but Amazon's exchange process was great and I had a replacement lighting fast. I then upgraded the RAM to 2 GB using Crucial's 2GB 204-PIN Sodimm DDR3. I had tried the Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 1333MHz PC3-1066 DDR3 SO-DIMM Notebook Memory (KVR1333D3S9/2GETR) but this ram would not post to the BIOS. I noticed a slight improvement from the previous 1 GB. I then upgraded to the Kingston SSDNow V Series 128 GB SATA 3 GB/s 2.5- Inch Solid State Drive SNV425-S2/128GB. This was hands down the biggest difference in performance I noticed. It really made everything operate faster. Lastly, I upgraded to the Windows 7 Home Premium edition. I did this because it has support for the Optimus drivers. I would highly recommend this to anyone that does not want to continually restart their PC when going from web surfing to watching HD videos. This PC also supports HDMI output to a LCD TV which I can say is quite nice. I did the Windows experience rating and got a rating of 3.1 with the limitation being the 1.5 Ghz dual core processor with Hyper-Threading. The next smallest limit was the video card at 3.4. The HD playback has been very smooth as well. I can watch 5 ~40 minute shows on this pc on a single charge and about ~7 hours of surfing the web with the Optimus drivers. This is when I plug the charger in, I could probably squeeze out more time if I put the computer into power save mode. I also installed Windows Excel, Word, and PowerPoint all of which runs great on this little work horse. The only issues with performance I have had are intense flash games that most PCs seem to have trouble with. It seems the ION chip they use in this PC is a water-downed version seen in the larger laptops. However, this does allow for the above mentioned viewing times on battery only mode, so this is a nice
